PLUSINNO is known for making affordable fishing gear, and this telescopic rod and reel combo is not an exception. With a carbon and fiberglass composite construction, this fishing pole is both light and durable. The high-tensile strength plastic reel comes with a machined aluminum spool and has a 5.2:1 gear ratio. And the best thing is that all of this can be yours for less than 75 dollars.

PLUSINNO Telescopic Fishing Rod Design

The rod has a distinctive design that sets it apart from other telescopic rods. It has a black pole, black handle, and a thick silver reel seat. The line guides also have a silver exterior with a golden ring that makes the rod stand out. In short, the PLUSINNO telescopic fishing rod has a beautiful exterior.

The reel uses the same color palette. It looks great, although it is not as special as other reels.

PLUSINNO Telescopic Fishing Rod Construction

So far, so good, right? But since we know that looks are deceiving, especially when talking about fishing gear, let’s dive in on what matters the most: The construction

Pole

The blank has a carbon and fiberglass construction, making the rod both flexible and strong. It will easily handle small to medium-sized game fish in both salt and freshwater. The medium power, which is standard in all versions, makes this rod suitable for a wide range of purposes.

The PLUSINNO telescopic rod and reel combo come in six different lengths, all of which have the same power. The 8.86, 9.84, and 10.83 feet versions come with 9 collapsible sections, while the 5.91, 6.89, and 7.87 feet come with 6,7, and 8, respectively.

A cool and concealed feature that the PLUSINNO telescopic rod has is that you can also extend or retract the butt section to meet your needs. For instance, if you want more leverage and casting power, you can unscrew the knob and extend it. Alternatively, you can collapse it if you need more precision.

As expected, the collapsed length changes according to the length of the pole. Nevertheless, all of them pack shorter than 22 inches, which is good enough for most backpacks

Line Guides

Now, let’s go for the line guides. These have a stainless steel main body with aluminum oxide inserts, which reduces the friction between the line and the ring. They are not as good as ceramic, though. But they are surely stronger, which is extremely important in travel rods

You will get between 4 of 7 guides depending on the specific model you end up buying. A practical rule of thumb with this rod is that you get two line guides less than the number of sections. It might be a problem with tension distribution, especially with the longer poles.

Reel Seat

Moving down, we find the stainless steel hooded reel seat. It is very thick and strong. Thus, unlike to fail.

You can fasten the reel in place by adjusting the width of the seat. The only problem is that it is quite hard to secure the screws tightly, especially if the area is dirty. Thus, try to keep it as clean as possible before mounting or detaching the reel.

Handle

The PLUSINNO telescopic fishing rod has the same problem as most telescopic rods. While the handle area is large, and you can make it even bigger, the grip is rather short. The end of the rod is the only section that has EVA foam cushioning. Still, it should not be a problem for most anglers.

The Reel

The reel has a high-tensile strength plastic body. Yes, we know, plastic is not exactly the best material for a reel. But what else would you expect at this price point?

It comes with a machined aluminum spool that has a decent capacity, 150 to 260 yards depending on the line weight, which is more than enough for a travel rod

It features a 5.2:1 gear ratio, anti-reverse and right/left interchangeable handle.

The main problem with this reel is that some units come with a loose drag knob. Like if it is not fastened correctly.

Power and Action Configuration

According to PLUSINNO, this telescopic rod has a medium power rating. But you don’t have precise information about the rod action.

However, we can tell you that the line weight changes according to the blank’s lengths. For instance, larger poles are able to handle thicker lines. Still, all versions are compatible with the same lure weight.

PLUSINNO Telescopic Fishing Performance

Deciding whether or not to purchase new gear comes down to the performance. In other words, we want the best value for our money, and the PLUSINNO telescopic fishing rod and reel combo has just the perfect balance.

You can easily extend and collapse the pole, and, since it has a cap at the end of the butt, you can access the insides of the rod to flush debris out. However, extending the butt section itself is not that easy. The same happens while securing the reel in place. The mechanism works, but it is not as smooth as collapsing the sections.

Now, one you are fishing, you will notice that the first quarter bends fairly easy. From this, we can conclude that the PLUSINNO telescopic rod has a fast or moderate fast action. The advantage is that you will be able to detect even the slightest of bites. Remember, however, that telescopic rods are not as reliable as 1-piece poles. Thus, don’t push things too far.

Like we said before, the reel is not a big deal. It is smooth and does a decent job against medium-sized fishes. However, we are concerned by the drag knob. It has some little game and looks likely to fall off the reel. So, don’t hesitate to replace the reel if you have a better one available.

PLUSINNO Telescopic Fishing Rod and Reel Combo: Everything you need in one place

The PLUSINNO telescopic rod and reel combo is a great deal for anglers looking for a light and compact travel rod. It has a strong overall performance, good castability, and comes with a friendly price. Both the rod and the reel are resistant to corrosion.

The compactness makes it an ideal choice for anglers who like to fish from a boat or kayak. The medium-power composite pole delivers fast action and great sensitivity, which is perfect for making those long casts from a sitting position.

The weakest point is the reel. It is not as great as the rod. However, you can’t ask too much at this price range. In our opinion, you should replace it with a better one.

The PLUSINNO telescopic rod is remarkably easy to use. But the handle could use some improvements since it is quite hard to extend and collapse. Also, we miss the hook keeper near the reel seat. It would be a nice addition in future versions since it speeds things up and gets you fishing in no time.
