The Garmin GPSMAP 547xs is a great option that’s sure to make the most of your fishing experience. It has a wide range of compatibility with different transducers, and you’ll be pleased to know that you can also access it via your smartphone. It comes right out of the box with GPS capability as well, which is a valuable feature for almost any fisherman.
The screen for this fish finder is a respectable 5” and comes in a full color, 480×640 pixel resolution. It’s sharp and of a big enough size you’ll be able to clearly make out the details you need to know. There’re bigger and clearer models on the market, but for the price this screen makes a standout feature.
Display Rating: 8/10
This option doesn’t come with a transducer, but you’ll easily be able to find one that will fit your needs. It can support either a 77/200 kHz or 55/200 kHz option, with the latter being able to read a bit deeper. It comes with the ability to support a downright powerful 1000W signal as well.
This finder supports some of Garmin’s best technology, though, you’ll be able to use DownVu and CHIRP readings quite easily. DownVu will provide a crystal clear view of the structures beneath the water to give you an easy understanding of where to throw your line. CHIRP, on the other hand, is a massive upgrade to the standard sonar capabilities which will give you amazing accuracy and a superior level of clarity over the more traditional sonar offerings.
Really the only way you’ll be able to get better readings is to get in the water yourself.
Finder Rating: 9/10
The 547xs is packed with additional features. It has, of course, a superior GPS and waypoint system so you’ll never be lost and you can mark any new hot spots you might find under the lake or ocean surface.
It also boasts some pretty robust and innovative networking capabilities, which will allow the creative angler quite a few opportunities. You’ll be able to connect it with any device on the same network, including phones and tablets to easily access it remotely.
With the right transducer attached, you’ll find that there’s very little this finder can’t do.

Ease of Use
Due to the large number of additional options available, this sonar unit might not be the most user-friendly. It’s not difficult to use but a novice might get lost while going through the options, and the menu system isn’t quite as intuitive as some of the other offerings on the market.
That said, the person who spends a little bit of time perfecting their control over the 547xs will find that they’re quickly and easily able to work it like a pro.
Ease of Use Rating: 8/10
The Garmin GPSMAP 547xs is an incredible little unit. It boasts a lot of additional functions and versatile finding capabilities which make it one of the best in its class. The only real disadvantage to using this one is the screen, which isn’t quite as large or clear as some of the most expensive finders. This one will make a great companion for almost any angler, however, and the unique and innovative networking capabilities allow for some novel possibilities while using it.
