Drag

A reliable drag system is crucial for fishing. It will prevent the line from snapping. Simply, drag is the pressure that the reel puts on the line. More pressure means that the fish need to fight harder to take the line out of the spool. Hence, getting tired in the process. Naturally, you should always set the drag according to the line’s test strength. It has to be always lower. It will snap otherwise. 

You can set the drag by using the star dial next to the handle in any baitcasting reel. If you have a spinning reel, you will find the dial in the front. Knowing how to set the drag is a vital skill.
